According to Tripp Mickle in the morning edition of today’s SportsBusiness Daily, a bankruptcy judge will rule on whether the Phoenix Coyotes will be allowed to relocate to Hamilton, Ontario, Canada without further hearings. The ruling would also address a relocation fee and other indemnification to the Toronto Maple Leafs and Buffalo Sabres. U.S. Bankruptcy Court Judge Redfield Baum released a one-sentence notice of his intent on the ruling last night, but did not specify when the ruling would take place. If a ruling in favor of relocation is given, Jim Balsillie of Research in Motion would be the exclusive bidder for the ownership transfer from Jerry Moyes for $212.5 million (U.S.). But, as mentioned, if relocation is approved, the sale price will prove to be much higher, possibly as much as $400 million when adding the relocation and indemnification fees are added in. The increase in price, nearly double the current offering price Balsillie is offering, may cause him to back out of the deal.
